Covenant Church is a non-denominational, Spirit-filled family church just up the road in Black River, minutes from the Fort Drum gates. Whether you were raised in church or have never set foot in one, there is a place for you here. Come as you are.

A non-denominational, Spirit-filled family church
Fort Drum brings people here from all over the country, and often from overseas. A set of orders can drop a family into Northern New York knowing no one, right before a deployment or a brutal first winter. Covenant exists to be the place you land: real people who will learn your name, watch your kids grow up, and stand with you whether you are here for one duty station or for good.
Black River sits right next to Fort Drum, so we are a short drive from the gates. For most soldiers and families living on or near post, Covenant is one of the closest churches you will find. Punch 28060 Leray Street, Black River into your maps app and you are on your way.
Absolutely. Plenty of our people first walked in alone after a PCS, not knowing a soul. You will be welcomed without being cornered. Come, sit, breathe, and see for yourself before you decide anything.
Doors open a little before, and the 10:00 AM service runs about an hour and a half: honest worship, a message from the Bible you can use on Monday, and space to pray at the end if you want it. No dress code, no performance, no pressure.
Kids check in with a secure system so only you can pick them up, then head to Kids Church built for their age while you worship. Kids raised around Fort Drum move a lot, so we work hard to make this a place they actually want to come back to.
The hardest stretches of military life, a deployment, a hard winter, a spouse carrying the house alone, are easier with people around you. Covenant is built for that kind of week, not just for Sunday morning.
One night a week, everyone comes together and then splits into groups: men, women, youth, and kids, all meeting at the same time and place. It is the fastest way to go from visitor to knowing people by name.
From nursery through the teen years and into young adulthood, there is a group where your kids are known and looked out for, and where they can build friendships that survive the next set of orders.
Our food pantry is open to anyone in the area who needs a hand, no questions and no membership required. Junior enlisted budgets are real, and so is our door.
For families teaching at home, our Homeschool Connections group is a ready-made community of other parents doing the same thing here in Jefferson County.
If you are weighing whether to visit, here are the real questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Covenant Church is in Black River, one of the communities that sits right next to Fort Drum, so it is a short drive from the gates. Our address is 28060 Leray Street, Black River, NY 13612. For most soldiers and families living on or around post, it is one of the closest churches you will find.
Yes. A lot of our church family arrived here the same way, moved to the North Country by the Army, far from home, and looking for people. You can come by yourself and simply be welcomed. No one will put you on the spot. The whole point is to help you find real friendships and a place to belong before the next deployment or duty day pulls you in a hundred directions.
Sunday worship starts at 10:00 AM and usually runs about an hour and a half, including worship music, a practical message from the Bible, and time at the end for prayer if you want it. Come a few minutes early and someone will help you find your way and get your kids checked in.
Kids are checked in with a secure system, so only you can pick them up. During the Sunday service they have their own Kids Church with worship, Bible teaching, and activities built for their age, while you worship with other adults. Nursery-age through elementary are cared for by screened volunteers.
No on both counts. Wear whatever is comfortable, jeans and boots are normal here. You do not have to join anything, give anything, or sign up for anything to attend. Come as you are, as often or as rarely as you like, and take your time.
Non-denominational means we are not tied to one denomination or headquarters, we simply follow Jesus and teach the Bible. Spirit-filled means we believe the Holy Spirit is still active today, so we make room to worship, pray for one another, and expect God to work in real life. It is warm and genuine, not weird or high pressure.
Beyond Sunday, there are midweek Family Nights with groups for men, women, youth, and kids all meeting at the same time, plus a food pantry for anyone in the community who needs it and a homeschool connections group. It is a way to build a support network here in Jefferson County that holds up even when a spouse is deployed.
Join us Sunday at 10:00 AM. Come a few minutes early, park anywhere, and look for a friendly face at the door.
