Genesis 39:21

You walk into work on a normal morning. Same parking lot. Same door. Same desk. You set your coffee down, turn on the computer, and start thinking about everything you need to get done before lunch.

Then somebody asks you to step into an office.

A few minutes later, you are walking back toward your desk, but everything feels different. You find a cardboard box and start putting your things into it. Your coffee cup. A picture. A few things from the drawer. Less than an hour after arriving for what you thought was a normal day, you are carrying your belongings across the parking lot wondering, What just happened to my life?

Sometimes life changes rooms faster than our hearts can catch up.

Joseph understood that.

One day he was a son in his father’s house. Then he was in a pit. Then he was a slave in Egypt. Then he was falsely accused and sent to prison. His location kept changing, and almost none of it looked like the dreams God had given him.

But Genesis keeps telling us something important: “The LORD was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2).

And when Joseph ended up in prison, Scripture says it again: “But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor” (Genesis 39:21).

That is worth noticing.

Joseph was in prison, and the favor of God was still on his life.

The room changed. The circumstances changed. The plan changed. But God had not changed.

Years later, Joseph could finally look back and tell his brothers, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).

Maybe you are standing in a place right now that you never expected to be. Do not confuse a changed circumstance with an absent God. You may not see what He is doing yet. Joseph couldn’t either.

But the God who was with Joseph in the pit was with him in the prison, and the God who was with him in the prison was already preparing the palace.

The place changed. God didn’t.

And if His hand is still upon your life, you do not have to understand every part of the story to trust the One who already knows how it ends.

You can trust Him.
