Where Heaven Gets a Voice on Earth

The Secret Place

Text: Matthew 6:1–21Date: August 2, 2026Speaker: Pastor Stephen Bryant
The Secret Place — Covenant Church
Before heaven gets a voice through us publicly, heaven must gain authority over us privately.
The Question

Where do you meet with God?

Message Outline

1

God Sees What People Never See

The secret place is where we meet with God without seeking recognition from people.

Matthew 6:6
Go into the room, shut the door, and pray to the Father who sees in secret.
Matthew 6:8
God already knows what we need; prayer is relationship, surrender, and listening.
Matthew 6:19–21
Do not live only for temporary rewards; lay up treasure in heaven.
Remember

Man’s applause is rented. Your Father sees what people never see.

2

Saved by Grace — Called to Faithfulness

Good works do not purchase salvation. They are the fruit of a life already saved by Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8–10
We are saved by grace through faith, not by works, and created in Christ for good works.
1 Corinthians 3:10–15
Our work will be tested, and faithful work will receive reward.
Matthew 25:21–23
God rewards faithfulness with what He has placed in our hands.
Remember

We do not work for God’s acceptance. We work because, through Christ, we have already been accepted.

3

Prayer Brings Us Under Heaven’s Authority

Prayer is not convincing God to support our plans. Prayer brings our will under His will.

Matthew 6:9–10
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
John 15:7
Authority flows from abiding in Christ and allowing His words to remain in us.
Remember

The first piece of earth that must surrender to heaven is me.

4

God’s Word Came from Heaven to Earth

From creation onward, Scripture reveals the power and authority of God’s Word.

Genesis 1:1–3
The Spirit moved, God spoke, and creation responded.
John 1:1–3
Jesus is the eternal Word through whom all things were made.
John 1:14
The Word became flesh and lived among us.
Remember

Jesus is the Word who came from heaven to earth.

5

We Represent Another Kingdom

Born-again believers are filled with the Holy Spirit and sent to represent Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:20
We are ambassadors for Christ.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 3:16
God’s Spirit dwells within His people.
John 17:14–18
We are in the world, but we do not belong to the world; Jesus sends us into it.
Remember

An ambassador has authority, but it is delegated authority.

6

Our Words Reveal What Fills Our Hearts

Words are not magic. Kingdom authority comes from a life surrendered to the King.

Matthew 12:34; Luke 6:45
The mouth speaks from what is stored in the heart.
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue.
Ephesians 4:29
Our words should give grace and build others up.
Exodus 20:7
God’s name must be treated as holy.
Mark 11:22–23
Faith speaks to mountains while trusting God.
Remember

Words have kingdom authority when they come from a life under kingdom authority.

The Response

Return to the secret place.

  • Find your place.
  • Shut out the distractions.
  • Open God’s Word.
  • Speak honestly.
  • Listen quietly.
  • Surrender your will.
  • Carry His words into your home and your world.

The secret place is not about having the perfect place.

It is about giving God your undivided attention.

The secret place is where heaven gets a voice on earth.
